Julie Y. Kim
Julie is an accomplished senior finance leader with over 20 years experience in diverse corporate finance, M&A and treasury positions in Fortune 50 companies and senior banking positions in top international financial institutions. Julie has proven expertise in capital raising and mergers and acquisitions having executed over 100 debt and equity financing and M&A transactions during her career.
She was a manager of Mergers & Acquisitions at Sprint and was instrumental in completing the largest telecom acquisition in U.S. history (Sprint/Centel – 1993). At Verizon, Julie served as Director of Mergers and Acquisitions and Director of International Treasury and was responsible for managing Verizon’s subsidiaries in Europe and Asia.
During her 10 years working at top financial institutions such as Citibank and WestLB, Julie worked extensively on project financing transactions in Mexico and Latin America developing an expertise in cross-border financing. She is a recipient of a number of awards recognizing innovation in structuring project finance transactions. Julie was the Head of the Telecom, Media and Entertainment group at ANZ Investment Bank where she managed the bank’s corporate lending activities targeting global media and telecommunications companies.
In 2004 Julie founded TechFinance Advisory, LLC to provide strategic and financial advisory services targeted to small and medium sized firms and has acted as interim CFO for number of her clients in diverse sectors including consumer goods, manufacturing, technology, business services, telecom, digital media, gaming, education and e-commerce.
Julie holds a B.A. in Economics from Washington University and an MBA in finance from Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
Morgan has over 25 years of experience in the technology industry as a CFO, venture capitalist, corporate development executive and investment banker. Morgan has either advised on, managed or executed over 125 private equity, public equity, private debt and M&A transactions. In addition, Morgan has served on over 25 boards, often serving on audit committees and advising boards on financial and operational risks.
Morgan began his business career at Alex. Brown & Sons, executing public offerings and M&A transactions for leading companies in the technology industry. After receiving his MBA in 1994, Morgan joined the San Francisco-based investment banking boutique, Volpe Brown Whelan, which has the distinction of taking the first Internet company, Netcom Online, public in December 1994. While at Volpe Brown Whelan, Morgan worked on numerous Internet deals and developed deep domain expertise in the digital transformation of several vertical markets, including financial services and healthcare.
Morgan’s interest in the disruptive nature of the Internet led him to join E*Trade Financial in 2000 as Vice President of Corporate Development and New Ventures. While at E*Trade, Morgan managed and executed venture capital investments, strategic acquisitions and asset divestitures. As part of E*Trade’s corporate venture group, Morgan led investments in the areas of IT security, datacenter software and data management/analytics. Morgan co-managed the spin-out of E*Trade’s corporate venture group, which became ArrowPath Venture Partners, in late 2003. Subsequent to this, Morgan became co-managing general partner of ArrowPath Venture Partners, a $200mm early-stage fund, which was a top decile performing fund for its vintage year (2000).
While continuing to manage ArrowPath Venture Partners, Morgan also became a General Partner with Milestone Venture Partners, where he focused his investments on cloud-based application and infrastructure software companies. In search of a new challenge, Morgan left venture capital in late 2016 to be become a CFO Advisor for several early-stage software companies. Recognizing the large need for CFO Advisors in the early-stage technology market, Morgan joined forces with TechFinance CFO in 2018.
Morgan graduated with a BA in History from Wesleyan University (1986) and earned his MBA at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a concentration in finance (1994).
Senior Accounting Director
Don is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in New York. He is a solution-focused, multi-faceted accounting and finance professional with management experience in public and private accounting. His experience includes comprehensive knowledge of financial statement preparation and analysis with a specialization in corporate treasury, forecasting and management reporting. He has demonstrated success in streamlining existing operations, increasing efficiency and reducing costs and implementing effective accounting and control frameworks.
Following graduation at Iona College, where he earned a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting, he worked in public accounting for seven years. His experience includes auditing and preparing tax returns for private and public clients in several industries including financial services and manufacturing.
Don’s experience in public accounting led to working for a top tier investment banking firm as a financial planning and analysis professional preparing firm wide projections and providing analysis of key performance metrics of revenues and expenses. After an internal transfer, he became Corporate Treasury Controller where he reviewed, analyzed and reported Corporate Treasury average balance sheet with over $400 billion in total assets. He also implemented several new departmental processes to streamline functions and enhance controls.
In 2009, he joined a mid size private equity firm as the Corporate Controller where he was responsible for all the financial activity of the firm. His work included consolidating over 100 entities in accordance with GAAP, implementing a foreign currency general ledger and managing annual domestic and international audit and tax compliance filings.
Managing Director, Finance
Rahul has over a decade of progressive experience in financial services. He currently oversees the finance function at TechFinance providing guidance in the areas of strategic and financial management, capital raising, budgeting, compliance and investor reporting.
Rahul worked at Standand & Poor’s (S&P) for seven years, most recently as a Director in their Structured Finance group. He served as the primary credit analyst for several leading prime and subprime issuers including Santander Consumer, Chrysler Capital, Westlake Financial, CarMax, M&T Bank and USAA, regularly interacting with the CFOs and treasury teams and providing guidance on their securitization programs. Prior to S&P, Rahul spent several years in corporate finance at GE Capital in their Commercial Finance team. He successfully led two major projects to transition credit analytical processes to GE’s global analytical center in India. For his efforts on these projects, he received the GE Risk Leadership Award from the CRO of GE Equipment Services in 2005. Rahul started his career at a middle market investment bank Avendus Capital where he worked in the Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) group. He worked on several cross border M&A transactions in the technology space.
Rahul’s advanced professional qualifications include an MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Financial Risk Manager (FRM) certifications. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Commerce with a specialization in financial accounting.
Rahul also has firsthand experience in the financial needs of startups having founded two companies: Education Beyond Frontiers, an educational venture offering online after school tutoring programs, and WineZetta, an e-commerce fine wine retailer. He enjoys leveraging his startup experience and financial expertise to help TechFinance’s clients.
Aaron has four years of experience at two Fortune 500 companies as an accountant. He has strong knowledge of IFRS and US GAAP.
Prior to TechFinance, Aaron worked as a senior accountant at PowerChina Resources LTD, with responsibilities spanning consolidated financial statements, budgeting, various analysis, internal control, and month end closing. He prepared the consolidated financials for seven subsidiaries with assets of more than $2 billion and managed the financial reporting process, timely and accurately delivered financial information. He served two years as an accountant at China Energine International (Holdings) Limited, a manufacturing company listed on HongKong stock market, where he prepared monthly closing, financial statements, and financial analysis. He has successfully passed all parts of the CPA Exam within four months on the first try.
Aaron holds a B.A. in Accounting from Tianjin University of Commerce and an MBA in Accounting with distinction from New York Institute of Technology.
Burt I. Ross
Mr. Ross joined TechFinance after having previously worked with Managing Director Julie Kim at Geller & Company. His responsibilities include fundamental corporate analysis, industry research, operational and financial planning, as well as financial modeling.
Prior to TechFinance Mr. Ross was in the Family Office Group of Geller & Company, a leader in financial advisory services to multi-national companies as well as high net worth individuals, family offices and non-profits. His main responsibilities revolved around investment management and planning for an ultra-high-net-worth individual and his private foundation – both multi-billion dollar portfolios. Before Geller & Company Mr. Ross was a credit analyst at two different hedge funds: SBZ Select Investments, and Angelo, Gordon & Co.
Mr. Ross attended The London School of Economics and received his MSc. in Real Estate Economics and Finance. Mr. Ross received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University.
